    The Furred Sentry...
The morning had come much earlier for one inhabitant of Hogwarts castle. His shift started long before the Students and Professors even thought about crawling out of their cozy beds to prepare for the day ahead of them, and as such, he need to have his duties out of the way when they did start to rise. The sun had yet to show its colors over the distant mountains, so the early riser had to light a lantern in order to see what was below him. Should he misplace his large feet, the resulting sounds of hoof on stone would be sure to wake any sleeping portraits, ghosts, witches and wizards that resided in the great school. The being turned slowly in his small room, gathering up his work supplies and marking off the route he would take today in his patrols of the halls. With one last look around the room the great mass backed out of the room and into the silent hall. He held the lantern high so that he could see not only the keys that hung from his belt, but the door to the quarters that he had just vacated. It took him all of twelve seconds to find the key he needed, and he placed it in the keyhole on the door and locked it. The golden name plate next to the door caught the light from the lantern and flashed the figure’s name back at him in bold letters.

MULGRON BLOODTHORN. MINOTAUR GUARDIAN OF THE CASTLE, GROUNDS, AND VILLAGE.

A few fingerprints from students who had rubbed the plate the day before, suddenly became an eyesore in the mind of Mulgron, and he took to trying to clear them off with the top of one of his furry hands, minding his three, hoof like fingers so as not to scratch it. The attempt only made the problem worse. It appeared that the fingerprints had been charmed to become more visible the harder you tried to clean them off. With a great grunt of frustration, Mulgron Bloodthorn snatched up his spear from beside the door, clutching it closer to him, and held the lantern farther out as if it might bite him. His first few steps were loud on the stone floors of the school and only after a number of tries at making them quieter by walking slower, did he find that he needed to put on those hoof mufflers that the Headmaster had made for him. Leaning his spear against a nearby wall and setting the lantern down on the floor, Mulgron slowly pulled a small bag off his back. He took a moment to rummage through it, picking out small objects and placing them back only after having looked under them. It was about five minutes later that he found what he had been looking for and he pulled them out with great haste.

They looked like hoof shaped socks. Two perfectly fitted wool socks that were pitch black in color and had no other real purpose to them aside from making the wearer more stealthy in their endeavors. ‘Well at least they aren’t pink’ he thought to himself as he slipped them onto his large hooves. After admiring how they seemed to blend into his fur color and texture, Mulgron got to his feet and took one careful step to see what they sounded like. He had expected a soft clap, or at least a thump. But to his surprise, the socks muffled all sound that could possibly be made by the Minotaur. His mouth now hanging open in awe, the great beast took a few looks about the way before jumping straight up with all his strength, and landing hard on the ground with a soft, cloth on stone sound. ‘This is fun!’. The Minotaur again lept into the air and landed with a soft ‘puff’. He did this four more times, adding a new move to each leap. Sometimes he would twirl, other times he would try to land in a combat stance, with each movement his smile grew wider until it finally consumed his face. If anyone had been out for walk, they would have died of laughter at the sight of such a beast preforming what looked like a graceful ballet for children of ages much younger than school attendance. But the game soon grew tiresome and Mulgron gave up in his attempts to amuse himself. His shift had started at least twenty minutes ago; he was running late.

The Minotaur gathered up his spear and lantern, the latter was now becoming useless as the sun’s rays were slowly filtering through the windows down the hall from him. But it would be needed for awhile yet as his first stop would be the dungeons, and there were no windows down there.

By the time his sweep of the castle had ended, his second shift, the guarding of the Great Hall during breakfast, was about to start. With a quick stop to his room to drop off his lantern and backpack, Mulgron readied himself for the main brunt of his work here at Hogwarts. Normally he would stand outside the Great Hall doors so that students would see him as they entered, but today the Headmaster had managed to convince two Aurors to guard the outside, while Mulgron took care of the inside. As the Minotaur approached the doors, the two Aurors shuddered under his gaze, neither making eye contact with their comrade in arms as he passed them. The Hall was empty, as was to be expected at the moment, so Mulgron plastered himself on the right of the door, so that he was in poking range of the elder Slytherins and Ravenclaws, should they get on his nerves. There were new staff this year at the school, not that Mulgron had been guarding it long enough to really notice. This was his second year here and he really hadn’t spoken to any of the staff, aside from the Headmaster, outside of his post. He hoped that would all change this year.

A fury of sound assaulted the sensitive ears of the guardian. A rumble so tremendous that it threatened to outdo the thunder that he storm above was casting out. It was the sound of hundreds of feet as they made their way from every corner of the castle in existence. Mulgron stood up straighter as the Great Hall doors were blown open further by the hands of many a student, bent on entering the hall for the purpose of filling their bellies. If they noticed the Minotaur was inside the hall instead of outside, they made no visible motion, and continued on their predestined course to snatch a seat before the tables filled up. Groaning loudly, Mulgron leaned his head back on the wall and waited for the professors to arrive so that the noise level would die down to only the soft sounds of smacking as food was consumed.

    Mulgron Bloodthorn
    ADMINISTRATOR'S CHARACTER.

    Name: Mulgron Bloodthorn.

Age(Take into account the year that the site is set in):
    58

    Species: Minotaur

    Gender: Male

    Personality:

At first glance, it would appear that Mulgron is a bit shy, because he strays away from groups and conversation. But in reality, he is the exact opposite; a quite talkative fellow with a love for social gatherings. Why then does he stand alone when numbers of individuals reach more than three? It is the simple fact that he doesn’t do well with the opposite gender, in fact, he hasn’t spoken to a female since he was but a whelp.

His opinions are rather straight forward, and his humor sometimes dry and dark, but in the end, Mulgron really does mean well. He supports the Order of The Phoenix, where most of his kin choose to support the dark forces of Lord Sharoth. And he stands alone on the idea of unification of the Centaur and Minotaur peoples; seeing them as cousins because of their heritage. Although he can come across as an unfeeling monster at times, it is only his nature as a Minotaur showing through. If you place him in an area with children, you will quickly see that he is not as mean as he wants you to believe.

    Appearance:

Around seven foot three inches in height, and weighing close to a ton, Mulgron is a massive warrior and a force to be reckoned with. His fur is black with grey flecks and his mustache and beard are pure white. His horns are white with black tips and the span of them is around three and a half feet. He has brown eyes and well pronounced cheek bones and chin. Normally he wears the ceremonial armor of his clan, but he can at times be asked to wear a plain leather vest and kilt for Order Meetings.

Abilities (Leave this blank until your abilities card has been approved): Minotaur Abilities.

    History:

Like most Minotaurs in the area, Mulgron was born into a large Clan that ruled a section of the Forbidden forest. His father was the Clan Shaman, while his mother had been one of the elder Warriors that protected the Brute. As such, Mulgron was trained in both the Shaman’s duties and the duties of a Brute’s bodyguard from a very young age. The school beyond the forest was off limits to all Minotaurs, but this little detail liked to escape the mind of young Mulgron from time to time. It was during one of these lapses in memory that Mulgron learned why they were not allowed near the castle. The young whelp had been chasing a group of Thestrals through the forest when the sounds of adults and children reached his ears. In the time it took the Thestrals to notice the noise and vanish into the darkness, Mulgron had darted out into the open grounds of the school and stopped dead in front of a group of Students and their professors. At first, it seemed that the adults would simply turn around and herd the Students back up to the castle, but after taking in the sight that was Mulgron, they changed their minds. Mulgron had with him the normal war hammer and bow that most of the whelps his age carry. He was also wearing armor and was quite out of breath from running, so he sounded like he was snorting at the humans before him.

One professor raised his wand in response to the beast’s sudden appearance and apparent reason for being there. Mulgron, being the child that he was, didn’t understand the danger that the little stick posed and thought that it was a sort of greeting. He made the mistake of raising his axe in the same manner. One moment he was standing upright, both feet on the ground, next moment he was on his back with both feet in the air and the sounds of fleeing wizards could be heard in the distance. It was then that he knew why his kind feared and hated the wizards, but he did not feel the same. As he lay there on his back, his pride the only thing hurt in the altercation, he couldn’t help but feel somewhat sorry for them. They had so many monsters that were bigger than them and could, if they wanted to, wipe them all out in a great war.

From that day forward, Mulgron continued to disobey the laws of his kind and visited the school grounds at times when he knew the children would be without their mighty guard. Each time he did, the children grew less afraid of him and soon carried out long conversations with the Minotaur during their breaks. When he was old enough to leave his clan, Mulgron sought out the Order of The Phoenix, in the hopes of joining them in fighting the new war that was starting between the forces of good and the small pockets of evil that cropped up here and there. It many years before the Order fully accepted him and even to this day he is not considered a true member of the Order, mostly because he is not human and his kind are known to trade sides for a price.

His current duty is to guard the castle, grounds and village of Hogsmeade against those who would wish ill on them.

Role Playing Sample (roughly two paragraphs): This must be filled in or your character will not be accepted!:

Can’t, won’t, and unable. Those words were always part of an excuse brought up by the Aurors who helped guard the school when asked to run on the same shift as Mulgron. It wouldn’t bother him so much if they were just afraid of him. No, their true reasons for not being there were much simpler than that.... They hated what he was. Just as Wizards and Witches never fully accepted that Goblins and Centaurs could hold a Wizarding job, so they will never fully accept that a Minotaur could hold a job either. The Centaur Professor, Firenze, who had taught Divination when the Great Harry Potter was attending this school, had held the position well, but had not really been accepted as a true member of the staff by all.

Same was the problem with Mulgron, who at the moment, held the position of School, Grounds and Village Guard. So intimidating was the sight of a great furred beast standing over seven foot tall. So grand was the idea that it was protecting you and yours from harm. So great was the thought that he would die for you in an instant should the need arise. And so frightening was the truth, that he might very well turn on you for a promise made by others that he would be treated as an equal, instead of a lowly pack mule. But no matter where he stood guard in a day, or what people thought of him when they saw him at it, Mulgron knew he would never trade it in for anything... He loved it here, even if those he protected feared him as much as they feared the enemy; for if they could fear him as their ally, then the enemy would surely fear him as a foe.

Today he guarded the doors to the Great Hall, standing tall in his armor, carrying his axe and bow on his back, and a mighty spear in hand. Many a student would pass him today on their way to a meal or gathering. And everyone of them would be subject to the stares that he would give them as he looked their figures over for any sign of deceit or mischief. Mulgron’s only true friend in this school was the Headmaster, who was also the Grandmaster of the Order of The Phoenix. He alone had heard the Minotaur out and allowed him to join the Order when so many of his colleagues had objected. And it was he who had hired Mulgron to protect the school and its inhabitants when so many others had said that a starving Vampire would be a safer bet. Because of this, Mulgron owed the Headmaster his loyalty, right to the very end, no matter what the Dark Lord or his followers offered.

A pair of first year students boasting Slytherin house robes, glared at the Minotaur guard on their way in. Their bags were slung over their right shoulders and looked like they were fit to burst from all the books that had been crammed in them. Behind the pair was a fourth year Gryffindor boy, being tailed by a third year Hufflepuff. The two of them eyed the bags of the Slytherins and then gave each other a nod as a confermation of the deed that was to be carried out. But just as they were moving into position, the booming, yet quite gruff voice of Mulgron, caught them mid act. “I wouldn’t if I were you, might earn ya a week’s detention if the Headmaster were to found out, him being the former head O’ Slytherin and all.”

The pair of Slytherins were startled at the Minotaur’s sudden speech and darted past him an a flurry of colors. The Gryffindor and Hufflepuff students veered away from Mulgron as they pushed past the other students who were also escaping the view of the beast. Mulgron chuckled as the last of the children vanished into the Hall beyond and started to hum to himself softly while thinking. ‘I love my job’

    Have you read the rules?:
    Aye.
